Circular Fashion in Hong Kong: Inside Booma Group's Retail Mixer, Sustainability Edition
March 17, 2026
Circular fashion in Hong Kong is no longer a niche conversation. On 17 March, Fēnxiǎng joined Booma Group's Retail Mixer: Sustainability Edition to speak on a panel about circularity in retail, alongside some of the brightest minds working on the problem.
We didn't just talk about why circularity matters. We unpacked the real challenges retailers face and the practical solutions that can drive change today.
Why circularity in retail matters now
Hong Kong loves fashion. It is also a city where great clothes are bought, worn a handful of times and forgotten at the back of a wardrobe. Every piece that sits unworn is value that has left the system.
Circular retail keeps that value moving. Resale, consignment and pre-loved marketplaces give clothes a second, third or fourth life, so fewer pieces end up as waste.
The challenges we discussed
Good intentions alone don't change shopping habits. On the panel we talked honestly about what holds circular fashion back:
• Perception: many shoppers still see second-hand as second-best, especially in a market where buying new carries status.
• Trust: buyers want to know a pre-loved piece is authentic and in great condition.
• Convenience: if selling an item takes more effort than keeping it, most people will keep it.
• Economics: circular models have to make commercial sense for brands and retailers, not just feel good.
Practical solutions that work
The most useful part of the conversation was the focus on what actually works. For Fēnxiǎng, that means making resale feel as easy and exciting as buying new.
As a peer-to-peer fashion marketplace, we don't own a warehouse or hold stock. Instead, we connect people across Hong Kong and Singapore who want to buy and sell contemporary and designer pieces. Sellers list in minutes, use our drop-off points, and every listing is curated so buyers can shop with confidence.
We also partner with independent brands so their collections can reach new customers through resale. You can see our current brand partners.
What we took away
Change in retail rarely comes from one big gesture. It comes from many small shifts — a brand trialling resale, a shopper choosing pre-loved, a wardrobe staying in circulation a little longer.
Thank you to Booma Group for bringing the industry together, and to our fellow panellists for an honest, practical conversation.
